Welcome at ExtremA!

The Austrian Alps, known for their breathtaking landscapes and rugged terrain, are not immune to extreme events related to natural hazards. Located in a seismically active region and characterized by high mountain peaks, glaciers, and steep slopes, the Austrian Alps are exposed to various types of natural hazards.

To mitigate the risks of extreme events related to alpine natural hazards, a profound understanding of the underlying processes and their interactions is required. Additionally, measures can be taken to reduce the burden on the physical environment and the residual risks to society. These measures aim to reduce the vulnerability of the population, improve preparedness, and increase responsiveness to minimize the impacts of extreme events. This is precisely where the ExtremA project comes in.
